Driver Plunges into Construction Site in Toronto

A male driver has been apprehended for driving under the influence after going in the wrong direction on a highway in Toronto, eventually plunging into a construction site and landing in a hole on the street below, according to authorities. The Toronto Police mentioned that the man, aged in his 30s, sustained minor injuries and was found outside his vehicle when law enforcement officers reached the scene.

In a statement to the press on Tuesday, Duty Inspector Brian Maslowski from the Toronto Police Service disclosed that the incident occurred around 5:35 p.m. and that the man was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Allegedly, the man was heading west on the Gardiner Expressway in a gray Honda, crashing through a construction gate into a restricted area and then proceeding through a significant gap on the elevated segment of the highway between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue.

According to Maslowski, the vehicle passed through a sizable opening, flipped over, and landed on Strachan Avenue. He emphasized that access to the construction site is solely feasible via the eastbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway. Maslowski remarked, “It’s a remarkable descent,” adding, “Fortunately, at this moment, I can confirm that there are no severe injuries.”

Authorities are urging individuals who witnessed the incident, possess dashboard camera footage of the occurrence, or have information regarding the driver’s actions preceding the crash to reach out to the police for assistance.
