Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime secured another championship by claiming victory at the European Open in Belgium on Sunday. The 25-year-old Canadian defeated Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic with a scoreline of 7-6(2), 6-7(7), 6-2 to clinch the ATP 250 tournament title on the hard courts in Brussels.
Auger-Aliassime, seeded as the No. 2 player in the tournament, showcased a dominant performance by delivering 17 aces during the intense two-hour and 34-minute match while winning an impressive 79% of his first-serve points. Despite losing the second set, he maintained control by converting two out of six break-point opportunities and denying Lehecka any chances to break his serve.
Reflecting on his victory, Auger-Aliassime commented, “It’s the final, so we put everything on the line. I feel like we were both extremely focused from the beginning. It was a high level for two sets, then you don’t know how things can go. But I’m obviously glad.”
This win marks Auger-Aliassime’s eighth career title and his third of the year, following his earlier triumphs in Montpellier, France, and Adelaide, Australia at the beginning of 2025. With this achievement, he now shares the record for the most singles titles among Canadian men in the Open era with Milos Raonic. Currently ranked 13th globally, he has moved down from his previous position as the sixth-ranked player in November 2022.
