Chantal Kreviazuk, known for her successful solo music career, has also penned songs for top global artists like Avril Lavigne, Drake, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, and Kendrick Lamar. She is set to release a new cover album titled “In My Own Voice” next year.
In an interview with Q’s Tom Power, Kreviazuk shared how she transitioned to collaborating with other artists during her first pregnancy to focus more on family life with her husband, Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, and their newborn. This shift allowed her to balance her career while being present for her family.
Reflecting on her collaborations, Kreviazuk mentioned her friendship with Avril Lavigne, whom she collaborated with on the album “Under My Skin.” She also contributed to Kelly Clarkson’s album “Breakaway,” particularly on the track “Walk Away.” Additionally, she shared her experience working with Drake on “Take Care” and her involvement in Kendrick Lamar’s album “To Pimp a Butterfly.”
Notably, Kreviazuk co-wrote Gwen Stefani’s hit song “Rich Girl,” which features a memorable hook inspired by a musical classic. She recalled the instant recognition of the song’s hook and the surreal feeling of hearing her own voice in it.
