In an east Hamilton neighborhood, a house on Dunsmure Road stands out during the holiday season with its gingerbread-like appearance and a yard adorned with nearly 50 festive blow-up decorations that illuminate the night.
Kevin Greenhalgh, the homeowner, started the tradition about seven years ago with just a few inflatables, which has now grown to almost 50, lighting up the night sky. Despite not being a huge fan of Christmas initially, Greenhalgh’s attitude softened over time, especially with the joy it brings to children passing by and taking pictures.
Neighbors, like Stephen Elliott and his child Neve, appreciate the effort Greenhalgh puts into the display, noting the positive spirit it brings to the area and the joy it brings to passersby. The community even chips in for the electricity bill, showing support for Greenhalgh’s festive endeavor.
Greenhalgh, constantly on the lookout for new inflatable additions, sources them from flea markets, sales, and yard sales year-round. His dedication to the display is evident as he spends around 40 hours setting up the decorations in November and even utilizes his neighbor’s driveway for some of the larger inflatables due to space constraints.
The festive display not only captures the attention of children but also adults who visit to take photos, appreciating the effort and holiday cheer it brings. Greenhalgh’s commitment to the tradition remains strong, with plans to continue the festive showcase for as long as possible.
