D’Angelo, the acclaimed R&B artist known for his distinctive raspy yet smooth vocals and the iconic shirtless music video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” has passed away at the age of 51. The artist, born Michael Eugene Archer, succumbed to cancer after a prolonged battle, as confirmed by his family.

Renowned for his unique blend of hip-hop, soul, and gospel influences, D’Angelo played a pivotal role in shaping the neo-soul movement of the 1990s. This year marked the 30th anniversary of his debut album “Brown Sugar,” which included hits like “Lady” and the titular track, earning him widespread acclaim and multiple Grammy nominations.

D’Angelo’s velvety voice, characterized by a mix of raw texture and soulful fluidity, set him apart in the music industry. His groundbreaking music video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” not only won him a Grammy but also propelled his second album “Voodoo” to the top of the charts, solidifying his position as a trailblazer in R&B.
