A fundraising concert aimed at supporting victims of the recent wildfires is scheduled for this evening in St. John’s and will be broadcast throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Chris Andrews, a key organizer of the event called the We Stand on Guard Once More benefit concert, is set to perform with his band Shanneyganock. Andrews expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the province during this challenging time.

The concert, which is completely sold out, is being held at the Jag Soundhouse in St. John’s. However, Andrews emphasized the importance of engaging viewers and listeners at home to maximize fundraising efforts. Audiences can tune in to local media channels for live coverage of the event.

The organizers are hopeful that people will come together in various settings, such as cabins, sheds, or kitchens, to watch the concert and show solidarity with the affected communities in Newfoundland and Labrador. The funds raised from the show will support the Canadian Red Cross N.L. Wildfire Response Fund.

Notably, this charity event follows similar initiatives that raised funds for regions impacted by Hurricane Igor in 2010 and post-tropical storm Fiona in 2022. The previous concert raised $2.2 million for post-tropical storm Fiona relief along Newfoundland’s southwest coast, with additional matching funds from the federal government.

The lineup for tonight’s concert includes renowned acts such as Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers, The Fables, The Ennis Sisters, and more. The event will be hosted by CBC’s Damhnait Doyle and NTV’s Toni Marie Wiseman.

Viewers can catch the concert on various platforms on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. NT / 7 p.m. AT, including CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, and CBC N.L.’s YouTube page. Additionally, it will be broadcasted on NTV, VOCM, Big Land FM, New Country Radio, OZFM, and Coast 101.1.
