4 killed in fiery single-car crash in downtown Toronto

Four people were killed and another person injured in a single-vehicle crash in downtown Toronto early Thursday, police say.

The fiery collision happened around 12:10 a.m. in the area of Lake Shore Boulevard E. and Cherry Street.

According to police, the driver lost control of the electric vehicle and slammed into a barrier.

When first responders arrived on scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, Toronto Fire said.

Four people in the car, all of them adults, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman in her 20s was pulled from the burning car by a bystander, police said. She was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life- threatening injuries.

Police have closed roads in the area for their investigation and are expected to provide more information later Thursday morning.
