A variety of potential investment opportunities, including a floating LNG terminal on B.C.’s coast, a high-speed rail line connecting Edmonton and Calgary, and a pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific Ocean, will be highlighted at an upcoming investment summit in Toronto. Prime Minister Mark Carney will present these 167 projects at the summit, aiming to attract $1 trillion in investment.

The detailed 66-page “prospectus,” obtained by CBC News, outlines the investment opportunities that Ottawa and Canadian business leaders will showcase at the event, scheduled for September 14 and 15. This gathering, organized by the prime minister in collaboration with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Public Sector Pension Investment Board, aims to attract international investors and Canadian business leaders to boost capital amid trade disruptions and geopolitical uncertainties.

The projects are categorized into eight investment areas, covering conventional and clean energy, mining, marine infrastructure, power utilities, digital technology, advanced manufacturing, and transportation. Each project description includes its current development stage, required capital expenditure, and the type of investment sought.

Notable projects in the prospectus include a $57 billion US expansion of the Port of Churchill, a $44 billion investment in Nova Scotia’s Wind West offshore wind project, a proposed $35 billion West Coast oil pipeline, and the $28.5 billion Ksi Lisims LNG terminal project. Additionally, the document features plans for a float glass manufacturing facility in Manitoba, enhanced manufacturing capacity for defense-related night-vision technology, and various infrastructure projects.

Although some projects are advanced, such as the Ksi Lisims project being “fully permitted and shovel ready,” others are in preliminary stages like a critical-mineral graphite project in Saskatchewan. The prospectus also details a $10.9 billion plan for a high-speed rail line between Calgary and Edmonton, a $35 billion oil pipeline project, and a $28.5 billion LNG export facility in British Columbia.

Furthermore, the document promotes clean energy proposals, such as nuclear power generation in New Brunswick, carbon capture in Saskatchewan, and wind power initiatives in Newfoundland and Labrador. It also highlights Canada’s leadership in artificial intelligence, showcasing investment opportunities in data centers and quantum computing technology.

The investment summit aims to attract global investors to support diverse projects across multiple sectors, fostering economic growth and innovation in Canada.
