Canada Post has presented a proposal to the federal government outlining its strategy to revamp its financial operations and establish a sustainable postal service. Procurement Minister Joel Lightbound introduced a series of modifications to the postal service’s duties in late September and set a 45-day deadline for the Crown corporation to devise a plan to rectify its situation.

The adjustments included revising mail delivery standards, broadening the deployment of community mailboxes to a larger segment of the Canadian populace, and terminating the suspension on the closure of rural post offices. Canada Post officially confirmed on Monday that it has submitted the plan to Minister Lightbound at the conclusion of the previous week. However, the postal service stated in a press release that it will disclose the specifics of the proposal only after receiving approval from Ottawa.

Laurent de Casanove, the director of communications for Minister Lightbound, verified via email that the minister has received the plan and is currently conducting a thorough assessment of its contents. Canada Post’s CEO, Doug Ettinger, expressed in a statement that the plan aims to modernize the postal service while safeguarding the essential service that Canadians depend on.

Ettinger emphasized, “Canadians deserve a postal service that is robust, dependable, and adaptable to their evolving requirements, and we are committed to fulfilling that expectation.” The endeavor to rejuvenate Canada Post’s struggling operations coincides with the company’s ongoing negotiations with its primary union, which is currently engaged in rotating strikes as the holiday season approaches.
