A breakfast company from Toronto is marking a significant achievement as one of its products has been selected to be part of the Artemis II mission, launching into space. Goldys, based in Toronto, was approached by the Canadian Space Agency in the summer of 2024 to include their product in the mission, as they were specifically seeking a Canadian product. The chosen cereal underwent rigorous testing by the space agency and was ultimately selected to be taken into space in its original form without any alterations to the recipe.

The co-founder, Daniel Schreiber, mentioned that the cereal met specific criteria, including a long shelf life suitable for future missions, being nutrient-dense without additives, passing micro-gravity tests, and being lightweight. The company remained cautiously optimistic during the testing phase, receiving orders from various locations such as Quebec, Houston, and Cape Canaveral.

Upon successful completion of the space agency’s checks, the astronauts had the final say in choosing their preferred products. Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen selected Goldys’ strawberry lavender cereal as his breakfast choice for the Artemis II mission. The co-founders, Daniel Schreiber and Daniel Carson, experienced the nerve-wracking launch of the mission in Florida, describing it as a haunting yet awe-inspiring moment.

Looking ahead, the founders are eager to receive feedback from Hansen regarding the cereal’s taste in space and are planning to continue their collaboration with NASA and the Canadian Space Agency for potential future missions, including the possibility of venturing to Mars. The duo emphasized the significance of their involvement in a historic Canadian space mission and expressed gratitude for being part of this milestone.

The return of the Artemis II crew is eagerly anticipated, with a focus on the astronauts’ safe homecoming. The founders expressed their excitement at the prospect of celebrating this momentous occasion and emphasized the potential impact of their contribution in space exploration.
