An eight-year-old girl tragically passed away on Tuesday in Vancouver’s Yaletown area after falling from a balcony in a high-rise building. The Vancouver Police Department received a distress call around 2:30 p.m. PT on Nov. 11 and despite immediate assistance from first responders, the girl was declared deceased at the scene.

The Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Section is actively investigating the incident and is urging individuals with any relevant information to come forward and contact the authorities. VPD Constable Tania Visintin emphasized that all sudden deaths are thoroughly examined to ascertain any potential criminal elements, especially in cases of this magnitude where the Major Crime detectives are leading the investigation due to their expertise.

Initial reports indicated that the child fell from the 23rd floor to a balcony on the seventh floor, leading to a heartbreaking situation for all involved, including law enforcement, emergency responders, and the family. The child, who attended school in Squamish, British Columbia, was described as a beloved and friendly student by the principal of a school in the Sea to Sky School District.

The Sea to Sky School District No. 48 is offering additional community support, including counseling services, to aid those affected by the loss. Superintendent of Schools Chris Nicholson expressed deep sorrow over the student’s passing, extending condolences to the family, friends, and school community while respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
