Abigail Strate, a native of Calgary, Canada, secured a bronze medal in the women’s ski jumping World Cup event held on Wednesday. Scoring 222.3 points in the normal hill competition, she clinched her fourth World Cup medal of the season, including one gold, two silver, and one bronze.
Her previous three medals were attained in the large hill category, which will also feature in the upcoming Milano-Cortina Games. Lisa Eder of Austria and Nika Prevc of Slovakia claimed the top two spots ahead of Strate in the recent event in Japan.
Expressing her satisfaction with the performance, Strate shared, “I’m quite happy with today, especially the qualifying jump as I took some time off competition and then came back here, so I think my expectations were a little high yesterday.” She finished ninth in the World Cup event the day before and is looking forward to the rest of the season.
At 24 years old, Strate is gearing up for her second Olympic appearance in Italy this February. Her previous Olympic experience in 2022 saw her finishing 23rd in the individual normal hill event and capturing a bronze medal in the mixed team event.
As Strate continues her journey in ski jumping, all eyes are now on her performance at the upcoming Winter Games in Milano-Cortina.
