This Morning viewers praise ‘brave’ cancer survivor as she appears topless on live TV

This Morning viewers have hailed cancer survivor Louise Bernadette Butcher as “brave” for appearing on the ITV show completely topless with her double mastectomy scars on show. Louise underwent a double mastectomy in 2022 after being diagnosed with Lobular breast cancer.

The activist, who is running the London Marathon topless to raise awareness of breast cancer, opened up about showing off her scars publicly on This Morning with presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard. “When I was diagnosed in 2022, before you tell anyone it’s like a shock but as soon as you tell people, you’re taking them on this dark journey,” she said.

“Everybody looks at you different. They tilt their head and it comes from a lovely place but it just feels like you’re pitied. I hated that pity. I didn’t want to be pitied. You lose your femininity, I lost my breasts. That was the worst part for me so I thought, ‘Let’s turn that around, that’s turn that narrative around and let’s show the strength, the power, the resilience, the discipline, the determination of a marathon runner with the scars of show.'”

While reaction on social media was mixed, many praised Louise for going on the show topless. “Very brave and courageous lady,” one viewer wrote. Another wrote: “I love this woman’s attitude, I’ve lost a breast and even with reconstruction it really impacts on how you feel about your body and how it looks. #ThisMorning.”

A third tweeted: “Just watched the lady doing the London marathon topless after her breast cancer fight and she’s had a mastectomy. Such a brave lady… good luck on Sunday #ThisMorning.”

While some viewers weren’t too happy about Louise appearing topless on the show, others hit back at them. “Imagine being triggered by a cancer survivor showing their scars #ThisMorning,” one wrote. Another said: “There isn’t anything wrong with her sitting there like that…Let’s all calm down #ThisMorning.”

This week, This Morning star Josie Gibson opened up about filming her Channel 5 series The 1970s Diet – and how it led to her being diagnosed with gout. “I kept saying to the nurse ‘My toes keep hurting,'” she said. “I thought gout was only for old men but I have been living quite a lavish life. Before I filmed this show, I caught a lot of flights, I drank a lot of champagne, I ate a lot of rich food and I had little sleep. That’s how I ended up getting gout.”
