Sweet Magnolias is making a comeback for season five after its fourth outing earlier this year ended on a major cliffhanger.
Season four proved to be a memorable one as it came out that Bill Townsend (played by Chris Klein) had died off-screen.
This made Serenity residents focus on their own lives and what they really want, including his ex-wife Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher).
So it was partly this that led to Maddie sharing that she had accepted a publishing job in New York, bringing not only hers but the show’s future into question.
Thankfully, Netflix has confirmed that Sweet Magnolias will be back for more with a fifth season on the way.
Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new Sky Stream TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.
This lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like The Last of Us and Black Mirror.
And going by showrunner Sheryl J Anderson, Sweet Magnolias season five is going to be spending some time away from Serenity and following Maddie in the Big Apple.
Anderson, who is also the author of the best-selling novel series that Sweet Magnolias is based on, told Tudum: “We are thrilled to let the Magnolias take Manhattan.
“Not only is this adventure huge fun, it’s also an opportunity to explore the facets of their relationships in a new context.
“While it’s crucial to have true friends in day-to-day life, it’s priceless to have them supporting you when you leap out of your comfort zone.”
It is believed that the entire main cast will be back for the next 10-episode stint with Swisher, Dana Sue star Brooke Elliott and Helen actress Heather Headley returning to lead the way.
There hasn’t been talk of a release date just yet but going by its previous series, it should be out sometime in the first half of 2026.
Fans were worried about whether or not the drama would be renewed as there was no talk of another series more than two months after season four came out.
Sweet Magnolias also only spent a couple of weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 for English-language series with season four peaking at the fourth spot.
Nevertheless, series five hasn’t been labelled as the final season so there is a chance there could still be even more to come following Sweet Magnolias making a comeback next year.
