Chris Eubank Jr has uploaded a few concerning videos after failing to make weight for his clash with long-time rival Conor Benn.
The British boxing stars are scheduled to go head-to-head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday night. There is a real animosity between the pair after they were thrust into a family feud following their famous fathers’ historic fights in 1990 and 1993.
There have been many chaotic moments involving the pair over the last few months, but none more surprising than Friday morning’s weigh-ins. Benn was quick to weigh in, coming in well under the 160lb middleweight limit at 156.4lb. However, after some time, Eubank Jr eventually weighed in at 160.2lb on his first attempt and 160.05lb on his second and final attempt. This means he will be fined a staggering £375,000, but the fight will still go ahead as planned.
One of the hardest battles in combat sports is the weight cut – and Eubank Jr has now provided some insight online after attempting to make weight. In a series of videos uploaded to his official Instagram page, the Brit can be seen showing off trying to shift the final few pounds ahead of the weigh-ins.
Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn will face off on Saturday, April 26, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Fans can order the fight on DAZN PPV for £19.95, which also comes with a DAZN seven-day free trial.
In one of the videos, ‘Next Gen’ can be seen slightly relaxed on the exercise bike working away, while profusely sweating. Another video uploaded to his Instagram story shows the boxing star wrapped up in towels and blankets – looking rather stressed, but determined to make the official weight. The Brit also uploaded the videos to his official X account, along with the caption: “Pain is temporary… Glory is forever.”
After hearing of the news earlier today, Benn was quick to share his reaction and appeared to see the funny side. The 28-year-old took to X – formerly known as Twitter – and posted a video and was filmed saying: “Show me the motherf****** money.” The line is in reference to the famous 1996 film ‘Jerry Maguire’ starring Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr.
Footage of Eubank Jr’s bid to make weight quickly went viral online, and Benn was once again eager to have a pop at his long-time rival and seemingly has no sympathy for ‘Next Gen.’ “Christopher who are you trying to fool and get sympathy from, I’m coming UP to your weight a weight you’ve made your last 3 fights and most of your career. It’s like you’re looking for excuses already? First time you’ve ever missed weight and first time you’ve ever posted a weight cut,” he posted.
Heading into the fight, Eubank Jr was fully aware of the drawbacks of potentially missing weight and revealed ahead of fight night that should either man come in overweight, they risk receiving a hefty fine. In an interview with the Guardian, he said: “I can change my mind at any time but it will cost me a substantial amount of money. I don’t want to lose $1m so I’m pretty sure I’m going to stick to it.” He added: “They are paying me a separate fee to restrict my weight gain and rehydration. I was never going to do it for free.”
