A hit ITV crime drama boasting a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes has landed on Disney+ in the UK, thrilling fans.
Viewers can now binge-watch seasons one to five of Unforgotten on the streaming service, with season six set to join the lineup shortly after its conclusion on ITV in February.
The series initially stars Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar as detective duo DCI Cassie Stuart and DS Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who delve into historical murder and disappearance cases.
However, the end of the fourth season saw a shocking twist with Walker’s character being written out, paving the way for Sinead Keenan to take over as the new lead, DCI Jessie James, in the fifth season.
Keenan admitted she was initially reluctant to step into the series following Walker’s departure but was ultimately convinced by the “brilliant” scripts. She expressed: “When you come into an established show, it’s very, very different.
“And obviously, I’d seen the show, and Nicola is brilliant, so I was initially reticent about even reading the scripts. But then I read the scripts, and they were brilliant,” reports Surrey Live.
She also recounted her agent’s encouragement, adding: “When I spoke to my agent she said, ‘Apparently it’s a really lovely job’, and I was like, ‘OK, you’re just trying to sell this now’. My fear was that I didn’t want to be filling a Cassie-shaped hole.”
Following the gripping season six finale in February, ITV has announced that Unforgotten will be back for a seventh season.
Creator Chris Lang is over the moon to be whipping up more episodes of Unforgotten, telling everyone: “I am so delighted to have been asked to create another series of Unforgotten, and given the opportunity once again to follow Sunny, Jess and their brilliant team, as they attempt to crack another cold case.”
He also noted that Unforgotten isn’t your run-of-the-mill drama, saying: “Unforgotten is a drama that has always asked its audience to lean in, concentrate, and engage with complex ideas, plots and themes, and we are profoundly grateful that such a large and loyal audience continue to enjoy doing exactly that.”
Adding to the excitement, ITV’s drama boss Huw Kennair-Jones chimed in: “Unforgotten is undoubtedly one of the UK’s best loved dramas and we’re thrilled to be returning for season seven,” praising the mix of familiar and new faces in the story that’s sure to hook viewers.
Unforgotten seasons 1 -6 are available to stream on ITVX and STV Player. Seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Disney+.
