Donald Trump‘s health has been called into question by an expert, following recent photographs showing a significant change in his physique.
While the world’s attention has been on the fallout from Trump’s tariff trade war, some have shifted their focus to his physical wellbeing. Snaps taken earlier this month seem to depict a noticeably leaner 78-year-old Trump as he made his way towards Marine One.
Indeed, it’s suggested that Trump has shed an impressive 30lbs (2st) since 2022, swapping his well-known penchant for fast food for a healthier diet.
Trump’s supporters have lauded his new trim figure, but one medic has warned that he may be facing a more serious health issue. Treated.com’s clinical lead Dr Daniel Atkinson highlighted that a man of Trump’s age could be at a heightened risk of various health problems, including diabetes, he told the Irish Star.
He elaborated: “For a hypothetical person, who has taken on the office of President of the United States for a second term, at the age of 80, there might be several factors that could affect their weight.
“An almost 80 year old with a busy schedule might be more susceptible to certain conditions that can cause weight loss. Diabetes, for instance, can trigger weight fluctuations when the condition is uncontrolled. Blood sugar can become more difficult to regulate as we age, and insulin resistance can develop with age.”
Diabetes is divided into two distinct types – type one and type two.
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Issues explains that type 1 diabetes occurs when your body produces little or no insulin.
Insulin is a hormone that aids blood glucose, also known as blood sugar, to enter the body’s cells to be used for energy.
Type 2 diabetes, the most prevalent form of diabetes, is a condition that arises when your blood glucose, also referred to as blood sugar, is excessively high.
The NIDDK advises that individuals who are overweight and over the age of 45 are more prone to develop it, along with a consistent lack of physical activity.
Symptoms of type two diabetes can include:
Having diabetes can result in complications such as heart disease, kidney disease, eye disease and foot problems.
No, this does not suggest that Trump has diabetes, either type one or type two, and there has been no public comment from the White House regarding his weight loss in recent months.
What has drawn more attention is the disastrous impact of his so-called ‘Liberation Day’ on April 2, which has caused global stock markets around the world to plummet at an unprecedented speed, even faster than during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He has since retracted on the tariffs, setting most countries at the base-line level of 10% while escalating his tariffs on China.
