India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C., captured gold on Friday, the final day of World Cup ski cross racing in Reiteralm, Austria.
Ottawa’s Hannah Schmidt earned bronze for her third podium finish of the season despite a crash with teammate Brittany Phelan of Mont-Tremblant, Que., who placed fourth.
The two Canadians did not finish the race and were tended to by medical personnel on the course.
Fanny Smith of Switzerland claimed silver.
“I am super happy with the win, but … I am a little bit frazzled. With the two girls that went down, it’s hard not to be concerned about them,” Sherret said after her second victory of the season. “I saw Brit ski down, but obviously, I am worried about Hannah. Hopefully, they are OK, and after that, I will let myself be happy.”
Sherret, 28, told Alpine Canada she has focused on skiing relaxed, knowing her plan and executing.
“This is my first time leading the overall standings so I’m pretty excited, but trying not to spend too much time thinking about it as I know I need to keep focus on my racing,” she said.

In a reversal of Thursday’s podium, India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C., won gold, while Ottawa’s Hannah Schmidt claimed bronze despite crashing out with fourth-place finisher Brittany Phelan of Mont-Tremblant, Que., on the final day of racing at the World Cup event in Reiteralm, Austria.
Friday’s result marked a reverse of Thursday’s final, where Schmidt took gold, Smith earned silver, and Sherret finished with bronze.
Marielle Thompson of Whistler, B.C., was eighth, Courtney Hoffos of Windermere, B.C., 12th and Edmonton’s Abby McEwen 13th.
Toronto’s Kevin Drury, making his 100th World Cup start, collected bronze in the men’s final, finishing behind Youri Duplessis Kergomard of France, who took gold, and Simone Deromedis of Italy, who earned silver.
“A podium feels awesome,” said Drury. “It was pretty rough and rowdy out there and I was having fun. I’m really proud of my mental attitude which was to just send it and I was in that flow state where things felt slow, but were fast.”
Kris Mahler, who hails from Canmore, Alta., placed ninth and Ottawa’s Jared Schmidt, Hannah’s brother, was 23rd.
