Up to 40 cm of snow expected by tomorrow in southern Quebec

Montreal and its surrounding areas will be cloaked in a thick layer of snow by Thursday morning.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a warning for the regions of Montreal, Montérégie, the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Outaouais, and Mont-Laurier.

“An intensifying low pressure system from Texas will track towards the province of Quebec,” said the federal agency in the warning, which also called for reduced visibility and poor conditions that could result in transportation delays.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” it said.

Snowfall amounts could range between 20 and 40 centimetres, starting Wednesday night and into late Thursday.

Winter storm warnings are issued when several types of severe winter weather are forecast at once.
