The City of Hamilton has declared a “significant weather event” ahead of Wednesday evening’s storm, which is expected to bring up to 15 centimetres of snow to the city and surrounding areas.
Burlington, Brant, the Niagara region and surrounding areas are expected to get hit by the storm starting late afternoon Wednesday, transitioning to freezing rain overnight.
The City of Hamilton declared the event “over an abundance of caution” and said in a news release it does not mean all city facilities will be closing early or that city programming is cancelled.
A snowfall warning is in effect for Hamilton. If you must head out on the roads this evening, remember to slow down, increase your following distance, allow extra time to make it to your destination, and ensure your lights and wipers are working. Hamilton police asked people to drive safely and stay home if possible.
Updates on snow clearing, service changes, and delays and program cancellations can be found on the city’s website and social media.
The city is asking residents to park off the road, where possible, to “allow plows and emergency vehicles to get through more easily.”
MHWKSAM: All Mohawk College campuses are closing at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday, February 12, 2025) due to weather. All in-person classes and on-campus events will be cancelled as of 4 p.m. Virtual classes will continue. The DBARC is closed and all athletic activities cancelled.

Many community programs, offices and activities were cancelled, postponed or ending early in anticipation of the snow, from music classes to evening acting classes and book launch events.
McMaster University and Mohawk College said they were closing their campuses as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Some school boards said they would make the call about school cancellations early Thursday morning. Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) said it would announce any closures by 6 a.m. by email, phone, and on its website and social media.
Burlington suspends on-street parking
The City of Burlington said in a news release it’s suspending all on-street parking starting at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, “to allow snow removal equipment room to clear roads safely and quickly.”
The city said snow-clearing updates can be followed on its website.
In the news release, it also said some city facilities would be closing at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The County of Brant also asked residents to not park on the street in the evening and stay indoors whenever possible.
The City of Brantford is postponing several meetings and announced possible service disruptions Wednesday night on its website.
