Good Morning Britain fans fume over Prince Harry comment after shock Ukraine trip

Viewers of Good Morning Britain were left bemused after it emerged that Buckingham Palace was in the dark about Prince Harry’s surprising decision to venture into Ukraine. The Duke of Sussex touched down in the UK on Monday, April 7, poised to battle for taxpayer-funded protection during his visits to Britain.

Just last year, the High Court had ruled against him receiving the same level of protection afforded to active members of the Royal Family.

After his legal confrontation, the father of two made an unforeseen trip to Ukraine where he engaged with victims of the war and injured military staff. According to a spokesperson, he stopped by the Superhumans Centre in Lviv’s western quarters, engaging in conversations with patients and personnel there.

In tow were companions from the Invictus Games Foundation, including four veterans who had experienced comparable routes to recovery.

During Good Morning Britain’s Friday (April 11) segment at ITV studios, presenters Rob Rinder and Charlotte Hawkins brought up the ex-royal’s unanticipated journey. They opened the floor to Royal correspondent Nick Dixon, who shed light on the implications of this visit, reports the Express.

He clarified on the broadcast: “With Prince Harry’s background, it’s no real surprise that he would want to be involved in a trip like this which we understand was kept under wraps really for safety and security reasons.

“He was invited earlier this year to Ukraine through his connections with the Invictus Games to meet patients and staff and to see the kind of work they’re doing, spend some time with them and see some of the prosthetics work and the reconstruction surgery and the rehab that they’re doing with injured soldiers.

“This is just a few days of course after he was in London for that court hearing about his UK security arrangements, but certainly a trip that would have had no involvement with the palace.”

As fans debated his contentious visit, X – previously known as Twitter – was awash with confusion over why Buckingham Palace would be privy to Prince Harry’s activities in Ukraine.

One user queried: “Well why would they? He’s left them”, while another echoed: “Lol, why are you talking about #BuckinghamPalace not knowing, they’re stopping his security. If he had told them, God knows what could have happened!”.

A third added their voice to the mix, stating: “Why should BP be informed? This trip has absolutely nothing to do with them” while a fourth chimed in: “Why would BP be aware of anything he does, he left on his freedom flight to become a celebrity who does these stunts for PR [eye-rolling emoji].”
