“Teen Spotlights Black Artists’ Political Impact Through Music”

Margaret Beyere is a firm believer in the transformative influence of music. The teenager from Happy Valley-Goose Bay is teaming up with CBC Radio’s Labrador Morning each Friday throughout Black History Month to spotlight a Black artist who serves as her inspiration through a song selection.

In her latest feature, Beyere delves into the intersection of music and politics, emphasizing how music has the power to inspire and mobilize individuals. She expressed, “Music acts as a messenger and has the ability to convey messages. Simple acts like creating a video or streaming a song can profoundly connect people with global happenings and instill hope in those who seek it.”

Beyere commends Yana the Artist for embodying this ethos through her musical endeavors. Initially discovering Yana the Artist on TikTok, Beyere highlighted her involvement in The Artist Media, a non-profit organization. Yana creates and shares songs on her platform, providing them as soundtracks for user videos. The proceeds generated from these videos are subsequently donated to various causes and charitable organizations.

Through Yana the Artist’s work, Beyere became aware of relief initiatives supporting the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a nation in central Africa plagued by conflict and abundant mineral resources.
