Canadian athletes secured two medals in the second-to-last finals of the World Cup series held on Saturday in Idre Fjäll, Sweden.
Representing Cultus Lake, B.C., Reece Howden clinched the gold medal in the men’s big final event.
The silver and bronze medals were claimed by Italy’s Simone Deromedis and Sweden’s Erik Mobaerg, respectively.
This victory marked Howden’s sixth gold of the season, propelling him to the top of the overall season standings with 938 points. Deromedis follows closely behind in second place with 905 points, trailing by a mere 33 points.

In the women’s competition, Windermere, B.C.’s Courtney Hoffos secured the silver medal behind the winner, Daniela Maier of Germany, at Idre Fjäll.
Fanny Smith from Switzerland took the bronze, securing the Crystal Globe for the overall season title with 976 points and only one final race remaining.

Canada’s India Sherret, the second-place ski racer, accumulated 869 points but ended her season due to a fractured sternum sustained during the world championships in Switzerland last week.
Despite Maier amassing 865 points, she could not surpass Smith as the maximum points attainable in a single race is 100.
