“Father’s Astonishing Survival After Hawaii Resort Explosion”

Darren Stevenson’s son expressed astonishment at his father’s survival after a suspected gas explosion at a beachfront resort in Hawaii. Stevenson, a regular vacationer in the state with his wife, sustained severe burns and fractures in the incident at The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach in Maui. He was airlifted to a Honolulu hospital and has been transferred from the ICU to the trauma ward for ongoing care.

The family described the past days as tumultuous, with Brock Stevenson emphasizing the miraculous nature of his father’s survival given the severity of the explosion. Two individuals in critical condition were flown to Oahu for treatment, with witnesses indicating a potential malfunction involving liquefied petroleum gas, which supplies the resort’s grill area.

Stevenson’s son-in-law, Mathew Kozier, remarked on the surreal nature of the situation and the challenges of managing it from a remote island. The resort is cooperating with authorities to investigate the incident, emphasizing the safety of guests and staff as a top priority.

Friends and family are rallying around Stevenson as he embarks on a lengthy rehabilitation journey, with a GoFundMe campaign initiated to support his recovery. Despite the uncertainty of his recuperation timeline, loved ones are hopeful for his return to health and shared experiences like attending Blue Bombers games together. Stevenson’s son expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, highlighting his father’s selfless character.
