Global music sensation Sam Smith is set to pay tribute to the iconic singer and composer Beverly Glenn-Copeland at the upcoming PTP Pink Awards. Glenn-Copeland will be honored with this year’s legacy award, among other distinguished 2SLGBTQ+ personalities, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto on November 6.
The Ontario-based artist gained recognition for his contributions to the beloved show “Mr. Dressup” and the re-release of his groundbreaking 1986 electronic album, “Keyboard Fantasies.”
Last year, Smith and Glenn-Copeland collaborated on a rendition of “Ever New,” a standout track from “Keyboard Fantasies.” This partnership showcased their musical synergy and mutual admiration.
In addition to Glenn-Copeland, the Pink Awards will celebrate other notable influencers in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, including Bilal Baig, Devery Jacobs, Carole Pope, Harper Steele, and Douglas Elliott. Elliott, a respected lawyer, has dedicated his career to advocating for the rights of Canada’s 2SLGBTQ+ population.
The Pink Awards, organized by Pink Triangle Press, aim to honor outstanding 2SLGBTQ+ Canadians and provide them with a monetary award to donate to a cause or individual that has positively impacted the community. The event serves as a platform to combat negative stereotypes and support the ongoing fight for equality and inclusivity.
This year’s ceremony will be emceed by Emily Hampshire from “Schitt’s Creek” and Hollywood Jade from “Canada’s Drag Race,” promising an evening of celebration and recognition for those championing change in the 2SLGBTQ+ landscape.
