Israeli forces continued their assault on parts of Gaza on Tuesday, marking the anniversary of the Hamas attack that triggered a two-year war. The ongoing offensive persisted as Hamas and Israel engaged in indirect negotiations in Egypt on critical issues such as Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza and Hamas’s disarmament.

These talks, centered around President Donald Trump’s peace plan, offer hope for resolving a conflict that has claimed numerous Palestinian lives and ravaged Gaza since the 2023 attack that killed 1,200 individuals. However, Qatar emphasized that significant details still need clarification before a lasting resolution can be achieved.

Residents in southern Gaza and Gaza City reported heavy bombardment by Israeli tanks and aircraft early on Tuesday. Simultaneously, Gaza militants launched rockets into Israeli territory. Amid these hostilities, both sides grappled with the complexities of the negotiation process.

While Palestinians remain skeptical about the prospects for peace, Israeli forces maintain their strategic advantage following their military actions post-2023 attack. The conflict has left a trail of destruction, with casualties on both sides and a heightened sense of isolation for Israel on the global stage.

Despite the challenges ahead, key stakeholders, including Western and Arab nations, back Trump’s plan, which calls for a cessation of hostilities, release of hostages, and humanitarian aid for Gaza. Trump’s substantial investment in ending the conflict underscores the importance of these negotiations.

As talks continue in Egypt, critical questions loom regarding the governance and reconstruction of Gaza. Hamas seeks a sustainable ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal, while Israel insists on Hamas disarmament. The negotiations are expected to be protracted, with no immediate resolution in sight.
