Canadian swimming star Summer McIntosh has pulled out of the upcoming World Cup tour in Carmel, Indiana due to illness. In a statement shared on her social media, McIntosh expressed her disappointment at missing the event but emphasized the competitive field of elite swimmers set to race this weekend.
Having been in Carmel to prepare for the competition, McIntosh is now focusing on recuperation. Her participation in the next stop in Westmount, Illinois remains uncertain. The World Cup tour, comprising three high-stakes events showcasing top athletes from the Olympics and world championships, offers a lucrative prize pool of $1.2 million. Swimmers have the opportunity to earn $10,000 for breaking a world record during the series.
A bonus of $10,000 is also up for grabs for any swimmer who achieves the World Aquatics “crown” by winning a single event across all three tour stops. McIntosh is among the Canadian swimmers enlisted for the tour, alongside notable names like Josh Liendo, Kylie Masse, Mary-Sophie Harvey, and Ilya Kharun. International stars such as Leon Marchand, Noe Ponti, Mollie O’Callaghan, Regan Smith, Thomas Ceccon, and Kaylee McKeown are also set to compete.
McIntosh, who recently relocated to Austin, Texas to work with renowned coach Bob Bowman, had a remarkable performance at the world aquatics championships this summer. The 18-year-old phenom clinched four gold medals and a bronze, solidifying her status as one of the few swimmers in history to achieve such a feat at a single world championships event.
