A pet parrot named Bleu made a daring escape from her home in Torquay, Saskatchewan, flying 500 kilometers away to Prince Albert. Bleu’s unplanned flight occurred when she took advantage of an open door as Rhys MacLean’s stepfather entered the house, leaving the cage open as usual. Despite feeling terrible about the escape, MacLean and his family were resigned to the difficulty of finding a flying parrot like Bleu.

MacLean shared his story on a local lost and found Facebook group in Estevan, not expecting much but hoping it would help his family cope with the loss. Surprisingly, the community rallied behind the search, with people sending messages and even recording bird sounds in their efforts to locate Bleu. However, despite the community’s support, finding Bleu seemed like a daunting task due to her elusive nature, especially in an open environment.

After about a month of being missing, a woman in Prince Albert contacted the Saskatoon Parrot Rescue claiming to have captured a blue parrot. To MacLean’s amazement, the captured parrot turned out to be Bleu. The relieved family reunited Bleu with her cage-mate Kiwi, noting her return was akin to completing a challenging mission. Bleu appeared weathered but quickly regained her usual spirited demeanor, delighting everyone with her recovery.
