Two adults perished in a house fire in Brampton during the night, leaving four others, including a child, in critical condition. Emergency services responded to a fire near McLaughlin Road and Remembrance Road around 2:13 a.m. Thursday. The deceased individuals were found both inside and outside the building. Three adults and a child, aged between four and five, were hospitalized in critical condition due to burns and smoke inhalation.
The Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire with local authorities. Peel Regional Police stated that a multi-generational family of nine and two other residents lived in the affected building. Unfortunately, three family members are still missing, including a child.
Fire Chief Andy Glynn mentioned that due to the extensive fire damage, the building had started to collapse, hindering the search efforts. The adjacent buildings were also damaged and evacuated for safety reasons. Mayor Patrick Brown criticized the building owner as an “absentee landlord” who neglected safety regulations despite ongoing compliance issues dating back to 2019.
Neighbour Jude Adibe described how the fire rapidly spread to nearby houses, causing concern among residents in the area. The community is in shock and worry as the investigation continues, with emergency services urging people to stay clear of the site.
