Nationwide sends urgent alert to millions who banked with them in September 2024

Nationwide has sparked excitement for 12million of its customers by sending out a jubilant message regarding “thank you” payments. The generous gesture involves handing out £50 to eligible members following the successful acquisition earlier this year of Virgin Money, delivering a substantial windfall.

To be in line for the cash award, members should have maintained a savings or current account, or held a mortgage with Nationwide as of September 30, 2024. Additionally, these accounts must still be active when the payment is distributed. Eligibility also hinges on having made at least one transaction with their current or savings account, or keeping a minimum balance of £100 spread across their accounts or mortgage during the year leading up to September 30, 2024.

Those who switched to a Nationwide current account from July 1, 2024, to September 20, 2024, via the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) can also bag the reward.

A text message from Nationwide informs customers: “Good news – we’re pleased to let you know that £50 has been paid into your account.”

However, if you believe you qualify and haven’t had an email or letter from Nationwide by March 20, 2025, it might mean they have outdated contact details for you, reports Birmingham Live.

Make sure to verify your information using the internet bank or banking app. Also, if records indicate you’re no longer UK-based, look forward to receiving your cheque in the mail.

The building society has issued a statement, advising customers: “We’ve started making the payments. If you’re eligible, we’ll make the payment into your current account or savings account by 30 April.

“If we’re making the payment by cheque, we’ll send it by 14 May. We can’t tell you when you’ll get the payment within that time period and we can’t change when it gets paid.”

They added: “If after these dates you’ve not received your payment, please contact us. You will need to log in to the internet bank or banking app to chat with us or visit one of our branches. We may need you to confirm your identity.”

Customers are reminded that they must reach out to the building society by January 1 2026 to verify their details, either through the internet bank, banking app or by visiting a branch.
