There are lots of different ways to come up with a baby name, and parents can often spend ages agonising over the perfect moniker.
One couple decided to come up with their own unique name to ensure their daughter stands out – but it has left other parents puzzled.
Taking to Reddit, a mum explained how her son returned home with a smile on his face, saying how he’d made a new friend who he referred to as ‘my Angel’.
She said: “My son, 12, has a classmate, 12, that he talks about a lot. Every time he mentions her to me, he always called her ‘my angel’. We thought it was so adorable, ‘He’s got his first ever crush, omg so cute!’
“So today, after I picked him up from school, he was going on again about something funny ‘my angel’ did, and I started teasing him about being into her because he’s always calling her by that cute nickname.”
Confused, her son turned to her and asked what she meant – and bluntly told her he doesn’t have a crush on her, she’s only a friend.
She added: “He looked at me in total confusion and said, ‘Mum, I don’t have a crush on her. That’s her name.’
“Yes, the girl is literally named Myangel. Just imagine the creep factor of everyone, including her teachers, being forced to literally call her ‘my angel.’ Yikes…”
While some users shared their shock over the name, others came up with ideas on how she could change it without offending her parents.
One user said: “I would change it to Mya, ASAP.”
Another user added: “I once had a coworker who went by Sugar. Turned out her full legal first name was Sugarbabe.”
A third user said: “Had a similar experience when I was in Highschool. I knew someone named ‘Mylove’, people just called her ‘My’ for short.”
One more user added: “That reminds me of when my cousin was graduating from high school in a very upper class high school in the American south.
“A more-than-unacceptable number of girls in her graduating class were literally named Bambi, Buffy, Baby, and Bunny. This was the mid-90s.”
Another user said: “I had kids in day care named Prince and Your Majesty. Did Not like the experience of calling that child Your Majesty.”
A final user said: “I stopped being friends with my local budtender when she told me her daughter was named ‘Baby Girl’ I could not not tell her how fucking dumb that was and how fucked that kid was for school and job applications”
