Canadian pair Laurin and Éthier win bronze at Skate America

Canadian figure skaters Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Éthier clinched the bronze medal in the pairs competition at Skate America, held in Lake Placid, New York. The pair achieved a total score of 182.87, with 121.58 points earned during the free skating segment, securing them the third position in the event. This marks their second bronze medal at Skate America, following their third-place finish in the 2022 event with a score of 156.94.

The gold medal in the pairs event went to Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara, who scored 215.99 points, while Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava from Georgia claimed the silver with a score of 195.73. Miura and Kihara dominated the free skating segment on Saturday, securing their top spot with 141.57 points, a significant lead over the Canadians who finished second in the segment.

In the men’s event, France’s Kevin Aymoz achieved his first Grand Prix victory after a challenging journey in figure skating. Aymoz outperformed his competitors, including Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Shaidorov and Japan’s Kazuki Tomono, to claim the gold medal with a total score of 253.53 points.

Moving to the ice dance competition, American favorites Madison Chock and Evan Bates impressed the audience with a rhythm dance routine inspired by Lenny Kravitz. The duo secured the leading position with 84.77 points, ahead of the Canadian pair Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha, who sit in second place heading into the free dance segment.

The women’s event saw Japan’s Rinka Watanabe taking the lead after the short program, scoring 74.35 points and narrowly edging out reigning world champion Alysa Liu of the United States. The competition remains tight, with the battle for bronze between Lara Naki Gutmann, Anastasiia Gubanova, and Kim Chae-yeon.

Skate America continues with thrilling performances, promising an exciting conclusion to the figure skating competition.
