The upcoming Grey Cup game between the Montreal Alouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders has Alexandre Gagne, the special-teams captain of the Alouettes, hopeful that the event will attract new supporters. Gagne believes that Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans, despite their strong allegiance to their team, will not root for the green-and-white Riders due to a long-standing rivalry.

Having joined the CFL in 2017 and previously played for the Roughriders before moving to the Alouettes in 2021, Gagne expects the Blue Bombers to back Montreal during the championship game. Although the Bombers narrowly missed out on playing in the Grey Cup at home for the sixth consecutive year, many of their fans will be present in the stadium to witness the game.

Alouettes’ quarterback Davis Alexander expressed gratitude for the warm reception they have received in Winnipeg, where locals have shown support for the team. The team’s relaxed approach to preparations, including a gathering on the field that was interrupted by a fire alarm, reflects their positive spirit leading up to the game.

Another player with ties to the Roughriders is Montreal’s third-string quarterback Shea Patterson, who previously had stints with both teams. Despite his history with Saskatchewan, Patterson bears no ill will and hopes to see Bomber fans rallying behind the Alouettes on game day.

In a unique pre-game ritual, Montreal players Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund and Darnell Sankey adorn themselves with face paint to mentally prepare for the intensity of the matchup. Adeyemi-Berglund emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and discipline against the experienced Riders and their quarterback Trevor Harris.

As fans and players gear up for the highly anticipated Grey Cup showdown, the excitement and camaraderie surrounding the event continue to grow, setting the stage for an enthralling clash between two formidable teams.
