Canada’s Alphonso Davies made a comeback for Bayern Munich after a 262-day hiatus due to a knee injury. The 25-year-old Canadian entered the game as a substitute in the 88th minute during Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League at Allianz Arena. Josip Stanisic initially played as the left back for Bayern against Sporting, but Davies hinted on the Film Never Lies podcast that coach Vincent Kompany might involve him in the match. Davies replaced Serge Gnabry, a German player who was among the goal scorers for Bayern.
Davies had been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury in March while representing Canada against the United States in a CONCACAF Nations League match. The injury, which included ligament tears and other damage to his right knee, led to Bayern criticizing the Canadian national team for allegedly not conducting proper medical assessments before Davies traveled back to Germany.
