Fired University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore faced charges after allegedly breaking into a woman’s apartment and threatening suicide following the termination of his job due to an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Moore, accused of home invasion and stalking, had been involved in a long-term affair with the woman before she ended it and reported the situation to the university.
During a court session where Moore appeared via video from jail, prosecutors disclosed the sequence of events that led to his abrupt dismissal from the football program. The woman, after ending the relationship, cooperated with the university’s investigation, leading to Moore’s firing. Subsequently, Moore forcibly entered her apartment, armed himself with kitchen utensils, and threatened self-harm while making distressing remarks to the woman.
Moore, upon being released on a $25,000 bond and entering a not-guilty plea, was ordered to have no contact with the woman and comply with additional evaluations and conditions. Despite Moore’s previous coaching success and his substantial contract, the university will not be required to buy out his remaining contract years due to the cause of his termination.
Having taken over the Wolverines as head coach following a national title win, Moore’s coaching duties have been temporarily assumed by an interim coach for the upcoming Citrus Bowl game. The university faces challenges in retaining players and donors amid the search for a new head coach, potentially impacting the historic football program’s future.
