The 55th annual Juno Awards are currently happening in Hamilton. At the Juno Awards Gala held on March 28, over 40 Junos were presented. The standout winner of the evening was pop sensation Tate McRae, who clinched album of the year, artist of the year, single of the year, and pop album of the year. Notably, rapper Tobi accepted the pop album of the year award on McRae’s behalf. McRae outshined Justin Bieber, who did not receive any awards for his latest album, “Swag II.”
Both McRae and Bieber are still contenders for the TD Juno Fan Choice Award, which will be announced during the broadcast on March 29. Aysanabee had a successful night, securing wins for contemporary Indigenous artist of the year and alternative album of the year. Daniel Caesar, although absent, won the songwriter of the year award and is set to receive the International Achievement Award at the Juno Awards.
Several first-time Juno winners emerged, with electronic artist Debby Friday joyfully claiming her first Juno for dance recording of the year early in the event. Karena Evans, another first-time winner, nabbed the music video of the year award for directing Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “luther” music video. Evans expressed gratitude for the mentorship she received from Director X.
The night also saw Begonia and Bahamas tie for the adult alternative album of the year award, with both artists expressing delight in the shared win and hinting at potential future collaborations. The full list of Juno winners is detailed below, highlighting the winners in bold.
