Reflecting on the 2011 incident when Shad received multiple awards instead of his album “Take Care,” which he hosted the 40th anniversary of, Drake expressed his thoughts while emphasizing the focus on Furtado. Toronto rapper Kardinal Offishall criticized the Junos for their handling of the situation back then.
Drake and Furtado share a longstanding friendship, with Drake considering Furtado one of his favorite artists. Notably, Drake encouraged Furtado to return to music after a seven-year hiatus by inviting her to perform at his “All Canadian North Stars” event in Toronto in 2022.
Before addressing his issues with the Junos, Drake praised Furtado for her resilience as a woman in the music industry, highlighting the challenges women face amidst male-dominated environments. Concluding his heartfelt tribute, Drake referred to Furtado as “our North Star” and a symbol of what is achievable.
