Vancouver has been selected to host the Davis Cup Qualifiers first-round match between Canada and Brazil, as announced by Tennis Canada on Thursday. The competition, a best-of-five tie, is scheduled for February 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre located on the University of British Columbia campus.
The winning team will progress to the second round of qualifying for the international men’s tournament, slated for September 2026. Canada, ranked ninth, will face off against Brazil, ranked 18th, with Canada boasting a strong home record having won 10 out of their last 12 ties on home soil. The two teams last competed in 2007 during the Group I Americas stage, where Brazil emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline.
Canada has had success in past Davis Cup ties held in Vancouver, securing wins against Spain and Italy in 2013 en route to the semifinals, and a 3-2 victory over Japan in 2015. The team’s qualification for the 2026 tournament qualifiers came after a 4-0 victory over Israel in World Group I play in September, in a match held behind closed doors due to protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
In 2022, Canada clinched its only Davis Cup title by defeating Australia in the final. Following losses to Germany in the 2024 quarterfinals and Hungary in the 2025 qualifying first round, Canada was relegated to the qualifying pool and then to World Group 1 level, respectively.
