Barry Manilow, aged 82, revealed plans for surgery to eliminate a cancerous lesion on his lung, leading to the rescheduling of his January performances. The announcement came on Monday following a medical evaluation prompted by an extended battle with bronchitis lasting six weeks, followed by a relapse lasting an additional five weeks.

In a candid Instagram post, Manilow shared that an MRI, advised by his doctor, revealed a cancerous spot on his left lung necessitating removal. Fortunately, the early detection was attributed to sheer luck and the expertise of his medical team.

The singer expressed gratitude that the cancer had not spread, indicating that current medical indications suggest avoiding chemotherapy or radiation therapy, opting instead for rest, nourishing meals, and classic TV shows like “I Love Lucy.”

A statement released by Manilow’s representatives confirmed the cancerous spot as a stage one tumor, with the surgery scheduled for late December. Following the procedure, Manilow will focus on recovery throughout January, with plans to resume performances with Valentine’s weekend concerts starting on Feb. 12 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. Arena concerts are set to recommence on Feb. 28 in Tampa, Florida.

Manilow’s previously scheduled ten January concerts across multiple states will now be held in February to accommodate his recovery and return to the stage.
