While Blue Jays fans nationwide have been fervently supporting the team during their playoff journey, 10-year-old Hugo and 8-year-old Meredith Fu have been diligently working to provide Blue Jays enthusiasts with the insights they crave about their beloved players.
“How long will you keep your moustache?” Meredith inquired of Blue Jays outfielder Davis Schneider in a video shared on the siblings’ Instagram page last month.
“As long as we continue winning, I’m going to maintain it for as long as that streak lasts,” Schneider replied.
During the team’s playoff campaign, the siblings have been privileged to conduct face-to-face interviews with prominent Blue Jays players, such as ACLS MVP Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and pitcher Kevin Gausman.
Moreover, they have not limited their interviews to Blue Jays players only but have also engaged with stars from various MLB teams.
“It’s incredibly enjoyable,” Meredith informed As It Happens host Nil Koksal.
They have persuaded players to divulge their winning strategies and offer personal advice, even extracting insights on learning from setbacks from pitcher Chris Bassitt.
Pre-game Routine
Recounting an experience from when she was five years old at a Blue Jays game, Meredith recalled how the idea to interview players struck her, prompting her parents to initiate the process swiftly.
“I really wanted to converse with real-life Blue Jays players, and that’s when I conceived the idea of conducting interviews,” she expressed.
The duo has established a routine for interviewing top MLB figures, involving meticulous fact-checking and question preparation the night prior to a game, usually commencing with taking out their notebooks.
