The Canadian women’s soccer team faced another setback as they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Japan in a friendly match in Nagasaki. Japan, ranked eighth, dominated the game with goals from Momoko Tanikawa, Mina Tanaka, and Aoba Fujino. Canada’s struggles continued as they were outplayed for most of the game.

Assistant coach Natalie Henderson acknowledged the team’s challenging phase and expressed the desire to improve their performance. Despite some positives in the match, Canada will need to work on consistency. This defeat extended Canada’s winless streak against Japan, with their last victory dating back to March 2018.

The two teams are set to meet again in Canada’s final match of the year. Canada will aim to bounce back from their recent losses to Switzerland and the Netherlands, following a disappointing defeat against the U.S. in July. This losing streak marks the team’s longest since 2019.

In the match, Canada struggled defensively, conceding goals to Tanikawa and Tanaka due to errors in possession. The Canadian goalkeeper, Kailen Sheridan, faced challenges in goal, leading to Japan’s advantage. Despite some promising moments, Canada failed to convert their opportunities into goals.

Canada made changes to their lineup, introducing new players for the match against Japan. The absence of key players like Olivia Smith and injuries to others impacted the team’s performance. Despite the setbacks, Canada remains focused on regrouping and improving their form in future matches.
