Canada’s Summer McIntosh broke the U.S. Open record in the women’s 400-meter freestyle event during the Toyota U.S. Open Championships held on Thursday night. McIntosh, a three-time Olympic champion, clocked in at 3 minutes 55.37 seconds, securing the first position.

The impressive performance by McIntosh placed her more than 15 seconds ahead of her closest rival, American swimmer Anna Peplowski, who finished second with a time of 4:10.55. Another American, Emma Weyant, claimed the third spot with a time of 4:11.25.

The previous U.S. Open record of 3:56.81 was set by American swimmer Katie Ledecky in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., last April. McIntosh, hailing from Toronto, narrowly missed her own world-record time of 3:54.18 achieved in Victoria last June.

The competition is set to continue until Saturday, offering more thrilling swimming action for fans and competitors alike.
