Julien Viel Snags Bronze in World Cup Moguls

Canadian freestyle skier Julien Viel secured a bronze medal in the men’s competition on Monday at the inaugural World Cup moguls event of the season in Ruka, Finland. Hailing from Mont-Sainte-Anne, Que., Viel achieved a score of 79.30 in the second men’s event, marking his fourth World Cup medal to date. The top spot was claimed by Australia’s Matt Graham with 81.72 points, followed by Japan’s Ikuma Horishima with 80.58 points. Star skier Mikaël Kingsbury from Deux-Montagnes, Que., did not participate in Monday’s event, having withdrawn from Sunday’s men’s competition before the small final due to a groin injury. Kingsbury, boasting an impressive 99 career World Cup wins, revealed his injury concerns during a pre-event press conference.

In the women’s event, Jakara Anthony of Australia completed a sweep by taking the top spot with a score of 79.89, trailed by Americans Olivia Giaccio with 78.64 points and Jaelin Kauf with 78.08 points. Berkley Brown from Aurora, Ont., emerged as the highest-ranking Canadian in the women’s competition with 67.59 points.
