U.S. President Donald Trump was captured on video at a Michigan auto plant raising his middle finger and seemingly using profanity towards a factory worker critical of his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein controversy. The video, initially released by TMZ, was not disputed by the White House.
According to White House spokesperson Steven Cheung, Trump’s response was appropriate given the worker’s expletive-laden outburst. The incident occurred during Trump’s tour of the Ford F-150 assembly facility in Dearborn when a worker yelled what sounded like “pedophile protector” at the President. Trump responded with an expletive and a hand gesture before walking away.
Following the incident, the worker who shouted at Trump was suspended, as confirmed by the United Auto Workers union. The union emphasized the worker’s right to free speech and pledged to protect his job as per the negotiated contract terms.
The UAW condemned the use of vulgar language by anyone, including the President, towards workers. Online fundraisers for the worker garnered over $650,000 in donations. While some Ford employees welcomed Trump during his factory tour, Ford executive chairman Bill Ford expressed embarrassment over the incident, calling it unfortunate.
Trump has a history of using profanity in public responses to criticism, similar to his recent exchange at the Michigan plant. His visit aimed to spotlight his administration’s support for U.S. manufacturing, critical as the 2026 election approaches, especially in politically significant states like Michigan, emphasizing domestic jobs and industries. Trump has faced scrutiny over his handling of Epstein-related records, but denies any wrongdoing in connection to the late financier’s activities.
