Liam Hickey is determined to achieve his dream of winning a Paralympic gold medal and is gearing up with Canada’s Para ice hockey team for the upcoming 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in Italy. Having already competed in various global sporting events, including the winter and summer Paralympic Games, Hickey has a notable track record with silver wins in Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022, along with several gold and silver medals at world championships.

The first game for Team Canada in Para ice hockey is scheduled against Slovakia on March 7. Hickey expressed confidence in the team’s abilities and eagerness to kick off the competition. A fierce rivalry is brewing following Canada’s second-place finish to the United States at the World Para Ice Hockey Championship in June. Feeling the mounting pressure, Hickey acknowledged the urgency of the moment and the drive to fulfill lifelong aspirations. He emphasized the importance of staying focused on the team’s preparation to secure that coveted gold medal.

Beyond his personal goals, Hickey is proud to represent his country and his home region of Newfoundland and Labrador on the international stage. He considers it a tremendous honor and privilege to showcase his roots in such a prestigious setting.
