Neil Young penned the songs “I’ll Love You Forever” and “Casting Me Away From You” in 1964 and 1965, respectively, with his band, the Squires. These tracks remained unreleased until they were included in the 2009 compilation album “Neil Young Archives Vol. 1: 1963–1972.” Now, Young has announced that re-recorded versions of these songs will be featured on his upcoming album “Second Song” with the Chrome Hearts.

In a recent post on his website, Young shared insights into the album’s creation process. He mentioned how he and the Chrome Hearts recorded five new songs, four on the first day and one on the following day, before realizing they needed more material. Young explained that he recalled an unreleased song from 1963 that had been lingering in his mind, along with three more unreleased tracks from the same era, which led to a mix of old and new songs for the album.

During a virtual Zoom session on July 8 with fans subscribed to Neil Young Archives on Patreon, Rolling Stone reported that Young expressed his decision to re-record “I’ll Love You Forever” and “Casting Me Away From You” because they complemented the newer compositions on the album. Young emphasized that the album is a blend of old and new songs, highlighting the contrast and cohesion between them.

Additionally, in June, Young released a concert film titled “Corduroy Plants,” directed by his wife, Daryl Hannah, capturing his 2025 tour with the Chrome Hearts.
