This move raises questions about whether the PGA Tour will facilitate his return. The announcement of Koepka’s departure was made by LIV Golf on its website, appointing Talor Gooch as the new captain of the Smash team formerly led by Koepka.
According to Scott O’Neil, the new CEO of LIV, Koepka and the league reached a mutual agreement for him to no longer compete in LIV Golf. O’Neil mentioned that Koepka’s decision was influenced by his family’s needs and a desire to stay closer to home. While specific contract details were not disclosed, it was believed that Koepka had one year remaining on his contract after joining in June 2022.
Under PGA Tour regulations, players who have joined a rival league are required to sit out for one year from their last participation. LIV Golf concluded its season on August 24, enabling Koepka to potentially explore opportunities on the European tour where he has previously competed.
Koepka’s manager, Blake Smith of Hambric Sports, confirmed Koepka’s gratitude for his time at LIV Golf. The statement emphasized Koepka’s commitment to prioritizing family time and his continued support for LIV Golf and its players.
