Longtime partners Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida have encapsulated the ebbs and flows of their 25-plus-year relationship in their upcoming dual memoir, “I’m Going to Break Your Heart: A Rock N Roll Love Story,” set to be released on August 4. Building on the success of their 2019 Canadian Screen Award-nominated documentary with the same title, Kreviazuk and Maida delve into a pivotal moment in their marriage that prompted them to seek counseling and couples’ therapy.
Maida took to Instagram to reflect on the unique experience of co-writing the memoir, stating that it differed from their past collaborations such as writing songs and touring together. He emphasized the raw vulnerability of putting their emotions onto the page without the support of melodies or chords.
In a candid Instagram post featuring her signing pages of the book, Kreviazuk delved into her contemplation on the complexities of relationships, questioning the intense love that initially binds couples together and the subsequent challenges that can lead to emotional or literal separation. Despite acknowledging the difficulties, she praised her husband Maida, describing him as her best friend and a supportive partner.
Maida, known as the lead singer of the Juno-winning band Our Lady Peace and a renowned producer for artists like Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson, brings a wealth of musical experience to their partnership. Meanwhile, Kreviazuk, a Juno-winning singer-songwriter and pianist, boasts an impressive career having written for artists such as Pitbull, Drake, and Christina Aguilera in addition to her solo work. Her latest album, “In My Own Voice,” was released in May.
To coincide with the release of “I’m Going to Break Your Heart,” the couple will kick off the 23-stop “Break Your Heart” tour this autumn, spanning various provinces across Canada. The tour has already seen four sold-out shows, indicating strong anticipation from fans. Additionally, they are scheduled to host a book talk at the Playhouse Theatre in Hamilton on August 6, providing audiences with further insights into their memoir.
