Taylor Heise scored her inaugural goal of the season just under four minutes into overtime on Saturday, leading the Minnesota Frost to a 2-1 triumph over the Vancouver Goldeneyes in the latest stop of the Professional Women’s Hockey League Takeover Tour at Edmonton’s Rogers Place.
Heise maneuvered into the left faceoff circle and fired a precise shot below the crossbar to secure the victory for the Frost (3-1-1-2) while leaving Vancouver (2-1-1-4) still seeking their first road win.
Abby Hustler also found the back of the net for Minnesota, with goalie Maddie Rooney making 27 saves. Meanwhile, Izzy Daniel scored the lone goal for Vancouver, with Emerance Maschmeyer stopping 33 shots.
Minnesota coach Ken Klee commended both goaltenders’ performances, stating, “Masch is one of Hockey Canada’s top goalies. The high-quality goaltending on display today showcased the talent in our league. Initially, I thought it might turn into a high-scoring game when we scored early on the power play, but Vancouver quickly responded.”
With a predominantly pro-Vancouver crowd of 10,645 witnessing 52 minutes of goalless action after the early goals, Vancouver had a crucial power play opportunity in the third period but failed to register a shot on goal against Minnesota’s penalty-killing unit.
The Goldeneyes relied on Maschmeyer’s heroics in the final moments, with Minnesota’s Britta Curl-Salemme testing her and the Frost pressing hard to break the deadlock to no avail.
The game started unfavorably for Vancouver as they conceded an early power-play goal, but they swiftly equalized through Daniel’s effort. Despite Minnesota’s early dominance, Vancouver rallied and controlled the latter part of the first period without managing to score.
The second period remained uneventful in terms of scoring, with both teams creating chances but failing to beat the goalkeepers. The most significant opportunities came towards the end of the period, with Maschmeyer denying a breakaway chance for Minnesota and Rooney thwarting a late attempt by Vancouver.
The game marked the third stop of the PWHL’s 16-game Takeover Tour, with another game scheduled for Edmonton on April 7, 2026. This initiative features neutral-site matches played outside the league’s usual cities, aiming to expand the league’s reach and engagement with fans.
