In Sudan, a civil war erupted two and a half years ago following a power struggle between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a potent paramilitary group. This conflict has been labeled by the UN as the most significant humanitarian crisis globally, resulting in the deaths of over 150,000 individuals and displacing more than 12 million.
Recent events in El Fasher, a key city in the north, marked a distressing development in the war as the RSF gained control, extending their dominance to all urban areas in Darfur. For more than a year, hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom are displaced and vulnerable, have been trapped in El Fasher, enduring severe shortages of food and medical supplies.
To shed light on the situation in El Fasher and the ongoing conflict in Sudan, including the various forces, including foreign influences, at play, Dallia Abdelmoniem, a Sudanese political analyst, provides her insights.
